Welcome to the official information page for our Unaffiliated Showjumping Competitions at Craven Arena. Whether you’re just starting out or aiming to move up the levels, our showjumping events are designed to be welcoming, well-organised, and inclusive for all riders.

COURSE WALKS

Course walks are available throughout the day and will be detailed in the published times

Clear Round Nights

Clear Round Nights are held on the last Monday of every month.

Warm-up Arena Opens – 5:00pm

Class Start Times

20cm – 5:30pm (prompt)

40cm – 6:15pm

50cm – 7:00pm

60cm – 7:45pm

70cm – 8:15pm

80cm – 8:40pm

Additional higher classes may be added on the night, depending on interest and time.

Rules & Regulations

All showjumping competitions at Craven Arena are conducted in accordance with British Showjumping rules. For full details, please visit: https://www.britishshowjumping.co.uk

Whip Use Policy

To ensure fair play and horse welfare, the following whip rules apply:

Permitted Use

  • To support natural aids (e.g., encouraging forward movement)
  • To guide the horse’s direction via the shoulder (max 3 contacts)
  • Contact must be behind the rider’s leg or applied with direct pressure on the shoulder(both hands must remain on the reins)

Prohibited Use

  • More than 3 total uses in the arena
  • Immediately after a refusal, run-out, or elimination
  • Above shoulder height
  • If the horse’s skin is broken or marked
  • Any misuse in the arena, warm-up, or showground may result in disciplinary action.
Rider PPE & Competition Wear Policy

Mandatory PPE
All riders must wear appropriate PPE when mounted:

  • A riding hat that meets current safety standards (e.g., PAS 015, VG1, ASTM F1163, or equivalent) For helmet standards, refer to the BHS guide: https://www.bhs.org.uk
  • Properly fitted riding boots with a defined heel
  • Body protectors are strongly recommended and may be mandatory for certain phases
Rider Dress Code

Clear Round Nights – Casual Wear

  • No formal competition wear required
  • Shoulders must be covered (no strappy or sleeveless tops)
  • Jodhpurs, breeches, or close-fitting trousers only
  • Proper riding boots with a heel (no trainers or open-toed shoes)
  • Safety-standard helmet must be worn and fastened at all times

Showjumping Competitions – Formal Attire

  • Jacket or show shirt (as per discipline rules)
  • Light-coloured breeches or jodhpurs (white, beige, or cream)
  • Gloves must be worn during the round

Failure to comply may result in disqualification or penalties. Officials will conduct checks before and during the event.

Event Cancellation Policy

Severe Weather Cancellations
If an event is cancelled due to severe weather, riders will be offered the choice of:

  • A full refund, or
  • Transferring their entry to another scheduled competition

No Refunds After Times Are Released
Once competition times are published, no refunds will be issued under any circumstances, including:

  • Rider withdrawal for personal reasons
  • Horse injury or illness
  • Scheduling conflicts
Clear Round Night Entry Policy

Entries can be made on the night (cash only) or pre-booked in advance
Pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment
No refunds will be issued within 48 hours of the event, regardless of the reason
